Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPWD) has had an “Operation Game Thief” (OGT) program which allows anyone who sees, or knows about, a wildlife crime to receive a reward of up to $1000 for information leading to a conviction of a wildlife crime. According to the TPWD website, over $195,000 in rewards have been doled out since the program’s inception in 1981.

Game wardens, by and large, are a competitive bunch. Back in the day, there were unofficial hierarchies established amongst us based on proficiency in whatever the type of work we were doing. Coastal wardens were expected to be in a boat on the water most of the time, and street cred was acquired by how well you could navigate a boat at night and the number of fishermen (netters) you caught with a gill net.
