Veteran’s Day originated as Armistice Day on November 11th, 1919, the first anniversary of World War One. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and November 11 became a national holiday, beginning in 1938 and celebrated since to give honor to the men and women who served valiantly to protect this country.

Read moreAs the morning sun rose and added warmth to the earth on a recent cold Pipe Creek morning, it became the perfect backdrop for a new cross erected on the Pipe Creek Christian School campus. The original wooden cross donated by the George Sistrunk family was damaged beyond repair in a recent windstorm. The school extended thanks Horizon Structural Systems in New Braunfels, who donated the six-inch steel tubing, and to Jeff Hayes, an employee of the company, and his son Jacob for welding the pieces together and erecting the cross. “It will take more than a windstorm to bring this cross down,” said the school in a statement.
