RE: DENYER COLUMN

March 02, 2022 - 05:00

Editor’s Note: The following letter is in response to the February 16 column headlined “The Rule of Law v. Rule by Power.”

It amazes me that Democrats can speak of The Rule of Law as far back as hunter-gatherers in Africa, of Socrates, medieval Europe, and of course Donald Trump, but never a word about the looting, larceny, arson and assaults in e.g., Portland, Seattle, and Minneapolis. Where was the sacred rule of law in those cities when organized groups, often “flash mobs,” attacked Federal buildings, burned police stations, and of course looted high-end retail shops? Where were the Democratic mayors and governors when shop owners lost everything and “autonomous zones” were allowed to exist free of police and law and order? Where was something as basic as border protection when thousands entered the country illegally and nothing was done? Was the rule of law somehow suspended? I believe our voters are more interested in answers to those questions than to what Socrates may have taught us.
