Bandera Library Happenings

Spooky Month is here! Come by the library to get your fill of Halloween movies and horror fiction.

Today we are hosting another Medicare 101 class in the Downstairs Meeting Room. The first session begins at 10:30 a.m. and the second session begins at 4:30 p.m. The class will discuss how and when to enroll, what all does Medicare cover and strategies to make the most of your coverage. Contact the Library to get more information.

Tomorrow, Thursday October 7, is the Monthly Book Club Meeting at 10 a.m. The group will be discussing Attica Locke’s novel “Heaven, My Home.” The book begins with nine-year-old Levi King running away from his home and thinking he should have left earlier. Now he is alone in the middle of Caddo Lake in a boat with a dead motor. Texas Ranger Darren Matthews is assigned this case while still emotionally recovering from his previous case.

Stop by the Artist of the Month Gallery to check out our October installment. Local history buff Theresa Doyle-Nelson, in collaboration with Father Franciszek Kurzaj, has created 19 pieces featuring their shared interest in Silesian culture.

Silesia is the name of the region in Poland where many of Bandera’s settlers emigrated from. Each piece is a photograph overlaid with a phrase in the Silesian dialect and its English translation.

Friday, October 15, is the last day to turn in your child or teen’s submission for the Pumpkin Decorating Contest. We have received some great submissions. Stop by and vote for your favorite pumpkin the next time you are in the Library.

Our Self-Care Kits are still available, although supplies are limited. This is a new program for the holiday season. For October, November and December, the Library is giving away small kits filled with items and activities that are shown to help alleviate stress. We all know the holidays are fun but can also be straining on our mental and physical health. Pick up a kit and remember to take the time to take care of yourself.

The Bandera Library is open Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Curbside service is available for checkouts and business services. Free Wi-Fi is available 24/7.
