Bandera Wranglers launch new event

The non-profit Bandera Wranglers a motorcycle bike rally, dubbed Iron Horsing Around Bandera County, from Bandera to Leaky and back on Saturday, July 10.

“This is our inaugural bike rally, and we hope it can become an annual event,” said Bandera Wranglers President Robbin Lynch.

Lynch said the Iron Horsing Around Bandera County event celebrates the motorcycle as a symbol of the horses western cowboys and cowgirls rode in the Old West.

The event, which benefitted other nonprofits the Wranglers support, started with a morning brunch and preparations for noon departure.

With rainy weather and word there was a large bike rally coming from Kerrville to Bandera, a trio of three-wheel motorcycles carrying six people departed for the ride. The Bandera Wranglers did not know how many bike riders would come to the rally so the non-profit was expecting 20 to 30 riders.

“At this point we are happy with what we got for this first motorcycle rally and build on that foundation,” Lynch said.

Lynch led the way with Georgia Dyer on the back of the bike. Linda Wider and Diane Latham and Scott and Julie Backer joined as well.

Scott Backer and Larry Crocker were some of the more experienced riders at the event, and they explained how motorcycle riding groups have changed in many ways.

They said that a lot of motorcycle groups years ago had bad reputations with the as public as motorcycle gangs, but that reputation changed to a very good one as more people see bike clubs like Bandera Wranglers do a lot of community helping, the two men said.

When the riders got back at 5 p.m. the party started.

At 6 p.m. visitors had a fajita dinner and at 7 p.m. live music.
