Excessively high levels of E. coli bacterial counts were found at five locations of the Medina and Sabinal rivers and their watersheds in testing by the Bandera County River Authority and Groundwater District earlier this month.
The counts of the harmful bacteria fell back to more acceptable levels in retests five days after the initial tests at all the locations but one - the Sabinal River in Utopia City Park where readings continued to exceed the level the state has set as potentially hazardous for human interaction.
