Labor Day Weekend: What You Need to Know

Labor Day weekend is quickly approaching, and there will be celebrations throughout the county. Here are some highlights, including parades, rodeos and music festivals. 

Friday, September 3

The Knights of Columbus Fish Fry is held on the first Friday of the month and is a delicious way to kick off your weekend. Held at St. Stanislaus, located at 602 Seventh Street in Bandera, food service begins and 5 p.m. and continues until food runs out. 

11th Street Cowboy Bar kicks off their Western Heritage Music Festival Friday at 7 p.m., with a music lineup in place through Sunday. Tickets are available at www.11thstreetcowboybar.com. The venue is located at 307 11th Street. 

Saturday, September 4

Bandera Round-Up kicks off Saturday morning at the Bandera County Courthouse. Arts and crafts will be displayed from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the courthouse lawn. Live music by Doc Williams and David Wayne from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. A chuckwagon breakfast with free coffee and biscuits and gravy beings at 9 a.m. A hat toss contest to win a Steins Cowboy Hat begins at 9:30. The Labor Day Parade kicks off at 11:00 a.m. with a longhorn cattle drive down Main Street. Live music, performances by the Bandera Cattle Company Gunfighters and other attractions will continue throughout the afternoon.

Jakes at Polly Peak are holding a Field and Market. Located at 3810 Hwy 16 S, the event kicks off at 8:30 a.m. with vendors. Food from SA Honey Wings Food Truck and games like water balloon fights, hula hoop contests, seven-ball tournaments and more begin at 11:30 a.m. 

The cowboy spirit continues at the Bandera Pro Rodeo Association Ranch Rodeo at Mansfield Park. Gates open at 6 p.m., and the rodeo begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the gate or online at BanderaProRodeo.org. 

Flying L Ranch Resort's final Chuckwagon Dinner and SHow of the year begins at 6 p.m.  Starting with a wagon ride down to Ghost Town, the event's festivities include BBQ dinner, country music and dancing, western entertainments and more. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 830-796-7745. 

Sunday, September 5

Still got a parade itch? The Tarpley Volunteer FIre Department's annual Labor Day parade and BBQ benefit can satisfy that. The parade begins at 11 a.m., with BBQ following at 11:45. There will be also be an auction benefetting the department.

Catch another rodeo at Women's Ranch Rodeo and Mutton Bustin' event at Mansfield Park. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the event begins at 8 p.m. Visit BanderaProRodeo.org for tickets and more information.
