Thunder in the Hill Country returns for 21st year
With RVs, tents, motorcycles and people packing Mansfield Park, it was clear spring’s Thunder in the Hill Country rally was underway.
Organizers told the Bulletin there were no incidents or trouble this year, just good times.
“This was our 21st year, and we had over 6,500 guests from as far away as London,“ said Lonnie Fitch of Biker Rallies of Texas, who organizes the event every year.
“This may be the biggest spring event we’ve had,” said organizer Bill Taber, adding the event, which featured activities for people with and without motorcycles to enjoy, would not be possible without staff and volunteers.
Fitch said the event was much more than a little party in the hills.
“Money is raised for several charities,” said Fitch. “CoCo’s Causes was a major winner in donations this year, which will go to children in need of back to school supplies in August.
Among the motorcycle lovers coming to Bandera to ride in the beauty of the Hill Country was a family of three from Midland and Canyon Lake.
Debbie Melendez and Lillie Melendez from Midland and Mat Rivas from Canyon Lake stopped briefly to tell the Bulletin they were excited to enjoy their ride before heading out on the road to do just that.
“Biker Rallies of Texas is a huge supporter of Bandera,” said Fitch. “We thank the City and the people who give us this opportunity twice a year.”
