EVELYN “SNUFFIE” SHORT
Evelyn Philomena Pyka Short, aka “Snuffie” Short, 102, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2020 in Bandera, Texas.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Bandera.
She was born July 24, 1917 in Bandera and was a longtime member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church.
For many years, Mrs. Short and her husband Howard O. Short owned and operated the Triple Oaks Liquor Store in Bandera before retiring.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Short, two sisters, Iris Pyka Elkins and Virginia “Gin” Pyka Overstreet, her brother, George Pyka, a nephew, Father Wayne Elkins, great-niece, Kathleen Overstreet, great-nephew, Trent Jonas, and great-great-nephew, Booker Davenport.
She is survived by nieces Jean Elkins Johnson, Lynn Overstreet Jonas and Cindy Pyka Luedecke, nephews Claybourne Davenport, Jimmy Elkins, Sam Pyka, Lloyd “Bo” Overstreet and Jerry Pyka, as well as numerous great-great-great nieces and nephews.
In addition, she is survived by Mr. Short’s children, John Henry Short, Sue Ann Short Jacoby and Thelma Evelyn Short Stiner and their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a gracious “thank you” to the caregivers at Bandera Nursing & Rehab Center and Peterson Hospice of Kerrville.
