GEORGE “BUTCH” TOOMBS SANDIDGE
George “Butch” Toombs Sandidge, III, age 78, of Acworth, Georgia passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021. Butch was born October 3, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland to Marie (McGill) and George Toombs Sandidge, Jr. He grew up in Southern California and Texas.
Butch loved the outdoors, travel, and water sports. In his younger days he was a competitive and championship water skier. He was also a surfer and scuba diving instructor. Throughout his life he loved to fish and hunt, and he especially loved sail boating, which he did as often as he could. Later in life he discovered Pickleball, and played it nearly everyday.
Butch was a skilled carpenter, craftsman, and draftsman. He designed the ceiling structure in the San Diego Sports Arena, and he received a “City Beautification” award from the city of Chula Vista, California. He worked as a General Contractor building subdivisions and custom homes in Southern California and the Texas Hill Country most of his life, and before he retired, he worked as a Building Superintendent for Winn Dixie grocery stores, and a Building Inspector for the City of Acworth.
Butch is survived by his wife, Barbara Lyn Sandidge; his daughter Shauna Davis (John) of North Carolina; his stepson Aaron Siller (Emily) of Kennesaw, Georgia; and his stepdaughter Sara King (Graeme) of Acworth, Georgia; his brothers Rob Sandidge (Roxy) and Dan Sandidge (Ella) of Tarpley, Texas and his sister Janna Hawes (Leslie) of Somerset, Texas; his sister Sherry Schiefelbein (Jerry) of Austin, Texas; his former wife Trina Sandidge of Bandera, Texas; his grandchildren: Frank, Andrew, Tyler, Lillian, Sophia, Lily, Lucy, Owen, Eliana, Simon, Noelle, Paisley, Islay, Levi, his great-granddaughter Lydia, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of life memorial service for Butch will be held Friday January 7, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Bandera United Methodist Church. Following the memorial service there will be a reception at the Fellowship Hall. A private family interment will be at the Tarpley Cemetery.
