GEORGIA RUSSELL

Georgia Adams “Jo” Russell, age 92 of Bandera, passed away Dec. 10, 2019, in Kerrville.

She was born March 15, 1927, in Tuff, on the west prong of the Medina River, to O.O. and Ona Mae Baker Adams, the oldest of three daughters.

Jo married Jim Russell April 6, 1945. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she was one of a kind, a tell-it-like-it-is kind of lady who did not sugar-coat anything.

She was as close to all of her great-grandchildren as one could ever hope to be – they adored her and she, them. She attended basketball, volleyball, baseball and soccer games, as well as any school play or award banquet they had – she was always there.

Whether babysitting, joining her friends for the weekly bridge game, delivering Meals On Wheels or volunteering, she could be counted on.

A Depression-era baby, she saved everything.

A walk through her house is a testimony of her love to her family and friends, where there are hundreds of photos from 1945-2019 and things her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren colored or made. Pictures of them in school, in uniforms as cheerleaders and as prom queens resided on every wall and in every drawer of her home, along with innumerable anniversary cards and love notes from Jim, who greatly loved her.

Jo was preceded in death by Jim in 1995, on their 50th wedding anniversary, her parents and sisters, Onella Chesson and Crickett Amberson.

She is survived by her daughters, Judie Lutz and Janett Moore, grandchildren, Russell, John, Jacob and Charlie, and 10 great-grandchildren.

She and Jim live on in their family, as they should, making the world a better place for it.

A memorial service was held on Dec. 16 at Grimes Funeral Chapel.
