John Brent Sorrell
John Brent Sorrell, 69, of Pipe Creek was called home by our Heavenly Father on October 11, 2023. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on March 27, 1954 to Ernest Delbert Sorrell and Floriene Sorrell (Thompson). He was married to Vicki Sorrell on March 5, 2005.
John graduated from John Marshall High School in 1972. Upon graduation from high school he worked in the electrical construction industry. He went through four years of apprenticeship school with the South Texas JATC. While attending school he worked for Alterman Electric and Fisk Electric Company. He went to work for USAA in 1989 and retired in 2019 after 30 years of service as a Master Electrician.
John grew up in Helotes where his family was involved in raising horses and trail rides. John enjoyed the sport of rodeo, riding bulls and bullfighting. Once John’s daughters got involved in 4-H by raising swine and cattle he was dedicated and shared their passion for raising and showing livestock. John served as a Director for the Bandera County Junior Livestock Show Association for 16 years and was still active as an Assistant Superintendent for the Cattle Show. John also served on the School Tours Committee for the San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo Association. He was a Director and Director Emeritus for over 30 years.
John loved his family, barbecuing, and traveling, especially to the beach. He and his family have enjoyed many fun and adventurous trips together. John was always up to having a cold beer or mixed drink with his family and friends. He loved to sit outside with his drinks and cigars and tell stories about family, growing up, and the infamous Grey Forest Donkey Lady. (the family will get that one)
John is preceded in death by his parents and numerous aunts and uncles.
John is survived by his wife, Vicki; his daughters, Amanda (Mark) Zaiontz, Lacey Sorrell and their Mom, Teri Sorrell (John’s first wife) stepchildren, Brandi (Cody) Wiatrek, David (Tiffany) Jones; brother Scott (Ann) Sorrell; grandchildren, Kenzie, Abby, Reiley, Harper, Sayla and Steely; nieces, Tiffany (Stef) Sorrell, Brittany (Andy) Marikos; and many cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Bandera County Junior Livestock Show Barn (2886 TX 16, Bandera) on Saturday, October 21 from 4:00pm – 7:00pm. The family would like to invite anyone who knew and loved John to come and celebrate his life.
A private family ceremony with interment at Phillip’s Cemetery in Dripping Springs will take place at a later date.
