Larry Donald Taylor was born on December 13, 1936, in Barksdale,

Texas. Larry left his Earthly home in Bandera, Texas, and entered the Pearly Gates of Heaven on August 18, 2023, at the age of 86.

Larry grew up in San Antonio, Texas, and graduated from Thomas Edison High School. After high school, Larry attended Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. Larry married Connie Gail Pence on August 1, 1959, and together they raised two sons, Randy, and Bryan. For over 50 years, Larry and Connie resided in Bandera, where they were active members of the First Baptist Church. Second to his love for Christ was his love for Connie. Larry was devoted to his family, especially his grandkids and, later, his great-grandsons.

In 1956 God called on Larry to spread His word as an Evangelist. Larry answered, and for nearly 70 years, he traveled nationally and internationally preaching the Gospel. From 1985 – 1986, Larry proudly served as the President of the National Conference of Southern Baptist Evangelists and the Conference of Texas Baptist Evangelists from 1987-1988.

The people of Columbia won over the heart of Larry Taylor and, despite national recognition at home, Larry would likely point to the Crusades in Colombia as the highlight of his career. Over the span of two decades traveling to Columbia, Larry tearfully witnessed thousands of souls saved into eternity with Christ. Swearing that he would never retire, Larry often proclaimed, “As long as God gives me strength to open my mouth, I will say Jesus Saves until my last breath”.

Larry’s family can only believe Christ greeted Larry into Heaven with “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Larry is preceded in death by his father, Roy Clyde Taylor, his mother, Glyn Berta Taylor, and his brother, Michael Lynn Taylor. Larry is survived by his wife, Connie, and their two sons, Randy and wife, Debbie, and James Bryan: his sisters-in-law, Annette Taylor and Vickie Parker, brother-in-law Lee Pence and wife Sharon, his grandchildren, Ryan Taylor and wife Leah, Andrea Estes and husband Walter, Amanda Taylor, and Travis Taylor. Larry is also survived by his four great-grandsons, Taylor and Jace Estes and Rylan and Rhett Taylor. Larry also leaves behind numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Honorary Pallbearers are Darryl Taylor, Brent Taylor, Kent Palmer, Carter Sells, Mark Clendenon, and Paul Zuckerman.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 11:00 a.m., at the First Baptist Church in Bandera, Texas.
