Bandera softball takes on Canyon Lake

The Lady Bulldogs stumbled again, making numerous errors in both the infield and outfield that kept them from truly challenging the Lady Hawks on the softball field last Thursday night.

The final score in the last home game of the season was 20-1.

The game got out of hand in the first inning when the Lady Hawks scored eight unanswered runs against Bandera. The second inning resulted in an additional eight runs for the Lady Hawks. In the third and final inning, the Lady Bulldogs managed to score one run to the four scored by Canyon Lake.

April Rodriguez took over pitching after the first inning and made a creditable effort trying to stop the Lady Hawks from scoring. Even had Rodriguez been in top form, the problem was also that the Lady Bulldogs hitting wasn’t up to par.

It’s hard to have an offense if you can’t get your players on base, however -- a fact which Coach Crowley has acknowledged prior to this. The Lady Bulldogs hitting was far from confident in this outing.

The Bulldogs are much better defensively when they can focus on the play. The errors committed by the Dogs had as much to do with their loss as lack of hitting. Again, the absence of confidence seems to have played a part in their defeat at the hands of the Lady Hawks.

This season has been a challenge for the Bulldogs. While they have shown flashes of talent and skill, they haven’t been able to capitalize on those to add to the scoreboard. Nor have they been consistent in their play. The Bulldogs are 2-15 overall and 0-9 in district. They are sixth in the district standings.

Big thanks to Mr. Ray Blanco for stepping in to assist with the team. It isn’t often that assistant principals are allowed to step out of their lane and have some fun.

The final game of the season was yesterday against Fredericksburg, who is ranked second in district. Results of that game were not available by press time.
