John Trocko: Bandera's Ironman
An Ironman Triathlon is 140.6 miles: 2.4 swimming, 112 biking and 26.2 running.
Bandera local John Trocko has several of these races under his belt, the latest of which was in Muncie, Indiana last October.
And he has no plans of slowing down.
“My biggest challenge is myself,” he said. “I’ve done over a dozen Ironman’s and will do a few more by 2023.
The athlete continues preparation for each rice, swimming daily and clocking in miles of biking and running locally.
Additionally, his weekly training schedule includes strength training for better support of the body.
“I typically put in between 20-25 hours a week of just training,” he said. “Not including twice daily morning and evening stretching and mobility. This is typically 30 minutes each day!”
The nearly 141-mile race begins at 7:30 in the morning and must be completed by 11:59 p.m. on the same day for participants to be dubbed an Ironman Athlete.
It’s something that certainly requires effort, but Trocko says he finds the Ironman Triathlons both challenging and comforting.
“To me it’s about being better tomorrow than I was today,” said Trocko.
