JOHNNIE “CAROLYN” CUMMINS
Johnnie “Carolyn” Cummins, born Jan. 2, 1943 in Three Rivers, Texas passed away Feb. 8 in San Antonio, Texas after battling many severe and debilitating health conditions.
After spending the majority of her youth changing schools and moving across multiple states as a military brat, Carolyn would eventually meet the love of her life while briefly attending high school in Uvalde, Texas. She would go on to graduate in 1960 from High School in Orange, Texas but would return to Uvalde to reconnect with the man who on Feb. 24, 1962 would become her husband for just shy of 62 years.
In addition to working incredibly long hours for three decades prior to her retirement in 1994 as Chief Financial Officer for Coulston International, Carolyn would raise two daughters, born 18 years apart. Eventually her daughters would bless her with two grandsons who she would cherish and adore. Carolyn would also tell you she had many additional children as the lead Youth Group Sponsor for Trinity Baptist Church in High Rolls, New Mexico for many years during the 1980s and early 1990s. She chaperoned her youth on multiple trips including taking them to visit Jerusalem and The Holy Land. Carolyn was a steadfast member of the Southern Baptist Church her whole life and was a founding member of Stonebridge Baptist Church in San Antonio. She was also an avid fisherman and was never happier than when finishing on a Texas lake with her Mother and older sister, Dana.
Johnnie “Carolyn” Cummins was proceeded in death by her Mother: Ruby Snider; her sister: Dana Fortman; and her eldest daughter: Kimberley Cummins-Peace. She is survived by her husband: Dr. Bill Cummins of Pipe Creek; her youngest daughter: Carrie Leibold (Daniel) of Pipe Creek; her younger brother: Lewis Boyle (Joan) of Lakehills, Texas; her grandson: Casey Kendall Cummins Peace of Las Cruces New Mexico, and her grandson: Michael Cummins-Cortez of Pipe Creek, as well many adoring nieces and nephews.
Carolyn’s final act of generosity was donating her remains to be studied at the UT Health Science Center but a small memorial will be held March 9 for close family and friends in Lakehills, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully requests donations be made in her name to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation in honor of Carolyn being a two-time breast cancer survivor.
