Flags were lowered to halfstaff on Friday, May 15, in recognition of Peace Officers Memorial Day across the county, and two Bandera County law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty over the years were honored thanks to the efforts of Bandera County Commissioner Bruce Eliker.
Eliker, who was a reserve Bandera County deputy sheriff for nearly 30 years, did research that identified former Bandera County Sheriff Elvious Hicks and former Deputy Sheriff Jackson M. Phillips as the only two county law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.
