A Common Sootywing butterfly, never before documented in Kerr County, was seen in the Hill Country Master Gardener’s Demonstration Garden on June 7 by Tom Collins.Besides being a first for Kerrville, this is only the second documented sighting of this species in South Texas.Collins, a local expert on pollinators and a member of the Hill Country Master Gardeners as well as a Texas Master Naturalist routinely takes an inventory of the butterflies at the demonstration garden.He sent photographic evidence of his sighting to BAMONA (Butterflies and Moths of North America) and received confirmation of his identification on June 8.Collins was ...
