LONGHORN-FREE PARADE THRILLS PACKED MAIN STREET CROWD
The annual Labor Day parade, the Bandera Round Up, drew guests from all over the area.
Main Street was comfortably full of viewers as the parade made its way down Main Street led off by the Pro Rodeo Association riders carrying the Texas and US flags and sponsor banners.
Due to high temperatures and the lack of grass, the famous longhorn herd did not make an appearance at the parade this year, but that didn’t stop a variety of camels, mules, horses and draft horses from adding to the experience.
The parade drew forty-six entries composed of local businessmen, high school students and civic organizations.
There were classic cars and trucks rolling down the parade route as well as the notorious Church’s Chicken Car clucking along.
Two speed boats made an appearance revving their engines for the crowd.
Many parade viewers brought canopies to set up along the parade route even though the temperatures were moderate for the first days of September.
Parents patiently herded children along the route searching for just the right location from which to view the parade.
As usual, children collected candy thrown from the floats. Many parade goers brought blankets to sit on to view the parade as toddlers played close.
After forty-five minutes, the parade wound down with the fire departments bringing up the rear of the event.
Patrons slowly walked away from Main Street looking for lunch or wandering through the booths set up on the front lawn of the Courthouse.
